8 Ways to Make Your Writing Entertaining

I’m reviewing William Zinsser’s book On Writing Well. On page 297, he shares that not only did he want to write as well as possible, but as entertainingly as possible. To make your piece get attention he suggests use of any of these:

  • humor
  • anecdote
  • paradox
  • an unexpected quotation
  • a powerful fact
  • an outlandish detail
  • a circuitous approach
  • an elegant arrangement of words

Recently I read Gary Vaynerchuk’s book, Crush It!  “Storytelling is by far the most underrated skill in business,” he said. He reiterates over and over that your personal brand is about being your honest authentic self. “You’ll crush it as long as you concentrate on being yourself.”
