Part 3 of 3 on How to Get a Million Unique Visitors

Continuing from the last two day’s postings, Bill Belew shared how he got one million unique visitors to his websites. Here are the rest of his tips:

5. Write in a network. Find other people who write about something similar to you. Check blogcatalog.com.
6. Write for your social network. This means for audiences such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit. However, be aware that this kind of traffic won’t especially pay the bills.
7. Write till it catches on. Don’t give up too soon. He mentions the Japanese proverb about three years: From wikiquote.com here’s supportive details:
石の上に三年 ishi no ue ni san nen
a. Literally: Three years on the rock.
b. Meaning: It takes a long time sitting on a stone before it becomes warm. Expect to work at something for three years before you see results.

The +1 tip was:
8. Learn from an expert who has done what you are wishing to do and can tell you how. And you do not have to pay for it.

How Bill Belew Got One Million Unique Visitors to His Blog, Part 2

Continuing from yesterday’s posting, Bill Belew shared how he got one million unique visitors to his websites. Here are the 7 + 1 tips he shared:
1. Write a LOT. There are three kinds of bloggers: 1) those that write for writing’s sake; 2) those that write to get read; and 3) those who want to get paid. It’s a good idea to figure out which type of writer you are.
2. Write often. At least 10 to 20 posts a day.
3. Write well.
4. Write interesting stuff. Write on a topic you like and find the relevance to today’s marketplace. What’s hot in the news now? What do you like to write about that also could touch on blogging, sex, diet, babies, celebrities or money?
I’ll complete Belew’s list in tomorrow’s post. Stay tuned!

How Bill Belew Got One Million Unique Visitors to His Blogs, Part 1

A few nights ago I heard Bill Belew speak about how to drive 1,000,000 unique visitors to your site. I first saw Bill a few weeks ago at another South Bay Writer’s Meetup group that he hosted. It was then that I bought his book, How Wilby Got 20 Million People to Read His Blog, and How You Can Too. (I will discuss his book in future posts). In this more recent talk Belew went over the 7 + 1 steps that got him to the one million unique visitors. He reached the one millionth visitor after he had written 4,318 posts of approximately 200 words each. He was adding content a several blogs 4 or 5 times a day. He reached his goal in one year, one month and 26 days. How could you reach this goal quicker? He recommended writing posts that are 125-150 words instead of 200. In my next post I will summarize the 7 + 1 steps he spoke about since I’m now over 150 words.
